New Zealand is home to over 200 different ethnic groups. It was represented at the ASB Polyfest that was on Friday and Saturday. The group did an amazing cultural dace for the people that went to them preform. Also Polyfest is one of the most best day for all the Maori and Pacific Island people to preform at a festival. The first Polyfest was in 1976 and only four school went to preform. This year, over 9000 students will perform, showcasing the best from Maori, Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island, Filipino, Sri Lankan and Niue cultures. It is five dollars to be able to go in and see their cultures preforming and represent their schools.
The Maori people from all around the world have travelled to Hastings to watch New Zealand's do their best kapa haka performance and compete in the pinnacle event for Maori performers. This event is held every two years for the New Zealand national Kapa Haka competition. The first Kapa haka competition was on Sunday and it was in Hastings. Their is 47 groups, today that was it the finals, with Auckland's Maori group up first. Known for their use of weaponry in their performances, Te Mātārae i Ōrehu were strong, once again representing the Te Arawa tribe.
When I started sumo paint I found it really hard to do. The thing I found hard about it was to make the lines straight. I got most of my ideas from Samuel. It had to have something to do with Waitangi Day. I liked using symmetry on sumo paint because it makes my art work look cool. I liked doing this art with sumo paint for my Waitangi Day art work. I found it hard to do the patterns.
